What am I? What is the purpose of my life? Is there life after death? If I am a spiritual being, why must I go through this physical life? If God exists, why do bad things happen? What is heaven? What is hell?
Traditionally, the answers to these questions have been the province of clergy, scholars, and scientists. The rest of us are discouraged from troubling ourselves with such complex, even unanswerable, questions. If the expert’s answers are unsatisfactory, well, that’s just because some things have to be accepted on faith or it’s all just too complicated.
I decided to try to answer them anyway, to my own satisfaction. And here is what I discovered:
• These questions can be answered.
• All the information you need is available to anyone who wants it.
• You don’t need anyone’s permission to tackle these questions.
And I am here to tell you that these questions—and their answers—are nobody’s province and everybody’s province. I have done my research, studying both the sciences and the sacred texts of the world’s great religions. The Universe Within Us is a record of what I have found.
